Restaurant Veste Oberhaus
The Restaurant Veste Oberhaus sits high above the city inside the mighty fortress that the Passau prince-bishops began building on the ridge between the Danube and the Ilz from the 13th century onwards. The way up alone, whether on foot via the historic paths or comfortably by the Oberhaus shuttle bus, is an experience in itself. You are rewarded with what is arguably Passau's most famous view: down onto the baroque old town with the green towers of St. Stephen's Cathedral and across the striking confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz.
From the viewing terrace you can enjoy food and drinks with this magnificent panorama before you. The kitchen serves regional, seasonal dishes, Bavarian classics and hearty snacks, complemented by coffee and homemade cake in the afternoon. The upscale price level reflects the unique setting and the special atmosphere within the historic fortress walls.
This makes the restaurant the ideal finale to a visit to the Veste Oberhaus with its museum and viewpoints. Whether as a fortifying break after the tour, the goal of a leisurely walk or a place for a meal with a view you will not soon forget, here history, panorama and regional cuisine combine into an unmistakable experience high above the city of three rivers.
